U.S. Postal Service R2-D2 Mailbox
As part of the promotion of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope the U.S. Postal Service has a few promotions in celebration of it - the coolest one being the mailboxes made up to look like R2-D2. The official website has a list of states and cities that have the mailboxes, and Baton Rouge has at least one. After much searching, Tommy found it at the main branch on Florida Blvd. in downtown Baton Rouge. There is also a Frappr.com map that shows all of the reported sightings of R2-D2 mailboxes in the U.S - you can see ours posted there too. If you go by and get a picture with him, send us the pic and we'll post it! Plus keep a lookout, there may be others elsewhere. If you find another R2-D2 mailbox somewhere else - let us know!
Front-view of the mailbox. It looks as though it is a normal mailbox with a laminate that makes it look like R2-D2.
Here's the side of the mailbox. The mailbox is inside the Main Office infront of the Post Office shop, visible in the background.
Towards the back of the Post Office, you can see the promo poster for the stamp which will be available after 5/25.
Another promotional poster, this smaller version is on a door near the back of the Post Office.
Tommy, Jonathan and myself (l -> r) with the R2-D2 mailbox.
Here's my Threepio impersonation - I'm no Anthony Daniels though.
