It seems that the rumor mill has predicted another fact - The Clone Wars is coming to DVD as soon as month-after-next! It seems that Lucasfilm and WB want to keep riding the wave of the series' popularity by putting out the first four episodes on DVD on March 24th - with DVDs of four episodes each to follow in the months after that. From the official site:
[Doug Yates, vice president of marketing, distribution and online at Lucasfilm Ltd.] "Many kids and parents have told us they want to own their favorite episodes right away, which is why we are releasing this compilation as well as a second four-episode compilation this summer."
But for those of you that are wondering what this means for an entire season box set, the article goes on to say:
Meanwhile, for fans eager to own the entire first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucasfilm is in the midst of producing a multi-disc boxed set that is expected to debut later in 2009. Full details of the first-season DVD boxed set, which is also planned to mark the first Blu-Ray appearance of the series, will be announced later this year. The collection will include substantial bonus material that is currently in production at Lucasfilm, including explorations of the behind-the-scenes creation of the hit series.
Arrrgh!

You've got to be kidding me!

Lucasfilm is not the only one to do this though (you know releasing a "Best of" or collection set before actually just releasing the entire season of a show) but with the series being so popular - I'd hoped they wouldn't want to put it on DVD to make people watch it on TV long enough to wait for the first season to end instead of doing these little $20 DVDs that only have 4 episodes a piece. Especially since the second quote seems to allude to the fact that there are no special features on the 4-episode DVDs at all. Well, below is the cover for the first serial DVD, it will contain
Ambush and the three episode Malevolence arc.
